The Morvan has a lot to offer.
Nice towns, picturesque villages, lots of history and all that in beautiful nature.
Very worthwhile:
Vézelay
A beautiful historic town with beautiful facades, shops, restaurants and art galleries, located on top of the "eternal hill" (colline eternelle). There lies the impressive Basilica Saint-Marie-Madeleine that you can visit. Since the 11th century it has been a place of pilgrimage because of the holy relic that is kept in the accessible crypt. From the platform behind the Basilica you have a truly phenomenal view over the Cure valley.
Avallon
The Roman via appia ran right past Avallon, which says a lot about its favorable location. Over the centuries it has been fought over, conquered, violated and rebuilt. This city breathes history and you can feel it. Wander through the streets, see the old fortress walls, the towers and the half-timbered houses and if you get hungry, sit down in one of the excellent restaurants. So close that you can easily choose for a lovely afternoon in Avallon.
Pierre-Perthuis
Pierre-Perthuis This hamlet has an exceptional location. Three beautiful bridges and the church high above the river give it its special charm. You can easily descend (by car) into a gorge that is bridged by a beautifully restored arch bridge, so you end up in a green valley by the water where you can have a lovely picnic and swim in the beautiful river Cure.
